There are many chances to take part in extra-curricular opportunities in Drama.
Whole school productions
Whole school productions are a significant event in our calendar. They are an opportunity for students across different year groups to enjoy rehearsing and performing together. We encourage as many students as possible to get involved: we regularly have a cast of over 50, on top of a backstage crew, costume and set designers, make-up artists and students in the orchestra. We invite local primary schools to watch our final rehearsal and enjoy large and supportive audiences.
For 2017-18 we will be performing ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber on 23rd and 24th November.
Key Stage 3 Drama club
All Key Stage 3 students are invited to attend Drama club which culminates in a performance at Arts Evening.
We are incredibly lucky to be based in Southwark and benefit from the generous ticketing offers of many Southwark theatres. In 2016/17 we took our students to see thirteen different performances ranging from ‘Hedda Gabler’ at The National and ‘Art’ at The Old Vic to ‘The Life of Galileo’ at the Young Vic and ‘The Hunting Lodge’ at The Unicorn. We believe that seeing live performance is the best way to help our students become creative and analytical theatre-makers themselves.
‘Our Theatre’ at the Globe
In previous years our Year 10 Drama GCSE students were invited to audition for this project which involves them attending in-school workshops run by a professional director before taking to the Globe stage to perform an extract from a Shakespeare play. We hope to be running this project in 2017/18 for a selected Year 9 ensemble.
Each July the Art Department organise a celebration of work across the arts department. This is an opportunity for friends and family members to come and see the best work produced in Drama in lessons, for exam performances and external projects.
