Year 10

Year 10 Home Learning

Whilst the school is closed we will continue to set work to enable students to work independently at home.

Please use the table below as a guide to what work Year 10 students should be completing. This page will be updated regularly and more work will follow as we continue to follow the government guidance around the reopening of the school. Further details will also be posted on the website. Under the curriculum section we have listed each subject and within each subject students can find details of the work that has been set for their year group.

Subject

Home Learning

English

  1. Students have been provided with a CGP copy of Romeo and Juliet. An e-copy of the play with modern translations can also be provided upon request.  
  2. Teachers are providing resources and setting tasks for each scene in the play.  

Maths

  1. Students complete Corbett Maths daily challenge. 
  2. Additional tasks and links will also be available on Google Classroom. 

Biology

All students should be directed to the online learning packages called KERBOODLE. On this site they will be focusing their learning on the topic of chapter 11. HOMEOSTASIS from their GCSE Biology book working through pages 160-181 by reading and answering questions.  

Additional tasks and links will also be available on Google Classroom. 

Chemistry

All students should be directed to the online learning packages called KERBOODLE. On this site they will be focusing their learning on the topic of chapter 8. RATES AND EQUILIBRIUM from their GCSE Chemistry book working through pages 128-147 by reading and answering questions.  

Additional tasks and links will also be available on Google Classroom. 

Physics

All students should be directed to the online learning packages called KERBOODLE. On this site they will be focusing their learning on the topic of chapter 7. RADIOACTIVITY from their GCSE Physics book working through pages 92-111 by reading and answering questions. Additional tasks and links will also be available on Google Classroom. 

Religious Studies

Students in Year 10 will be focusing on their fifth AQA GCSE RS unit, Islam Practices, this summer half term. This work will be set, completed and monitored via Google Classroom and as such it is imperative that all Year 10 students have joined their Google Classroom. If there are issues with joining the classroom, please contact the RS Teacher via email.  

  • Each Monday students will be emailed a link to an online lesson to watch and make notes into their exercise book. 
  • Each Wednesday there will be quizzes due based on Monday's lesson. 
  • Each Friday there will either be a 4- and 5-mark question or a 12-mark question due based on Monday's lesson.  
  • All of this is via Google Classroom. 

French

  1. Topic studied: My town and my region (unit 4 in Studio book on Active Learn). Work updated regularly on Google Classroom. Ask your teacher for the code if you do not have it yet. 
  2. Independent work on Linguascope.com - Work on the topics directed by your teacher in the “Intermediate section” and write down vocabulary in books. Email your teacher for the login and password if you are unsure. 

German

  1. Topic studied: Home and local area/grammar. Work updated regularly on Google Classroom. Ask your teacher for the code if you do not have it yet. 
  2. Independent work on Linguascope.com - Work on the topics directed by your teacher in the “Intermediate section” and write down vocabulary in books. Email your teacher for the login and password if you are unsure. 

Spanish

  1. Topic studied: Home and local area (Unit 5 on Kerboodle in the AQA book). Work updated regularly on Google Classroom and/or emailed directly. Ask your teacher for google classroom code if you do not have it yet. 
  2. Independent work on Linguascope.com - Work on the topics directed by your teacher in the “Intermediate section” and write down vocabulary in books. Email your teacher for the login and password if you are unsure. 

Geography

Topic: Ecosystems, Tropical Rainforests and Hot Deserts 

  1. Students should complete the worksheets sent to them for each lesson, which usually include a practice exam question. 
  2. Powerpoint slides are placed on google classroom for each lesson, often along with videos relevant to the lesson. 
  3. Students should participate in webinars provided by the Head of Geography. 

History

  1. Continue to study the Crime and Punishment unit at home.   
  2. Ms Quigley ad Mr Taggart will post the work on Google Classroom with PPTs and worksheets in advance of when the lessons would usually take place 
  3. Teachers will be available to answer questions during the timetabled lesson time.  Students will need to complete practice questions and email it to teachers to be marked.  Students have been given log-in details to access the Hodder history online textbook.  

DT Resistant Materials

Task 1: Complete all 5 designs for your chosen product. Annotate and colour (colouring is optional). 

Task 2: Plastics theory activities. Information sheets and activities have been given to students. 

Task 3: People, culture and society activity. Students will need to do some internet research around market pull and technology push as well as drawing on their own opinions as a designer to answer the questions. 

Task 4: Complete the test on the theory work completed so far. This should be done without their books. They may then refer back to their books and add any missing detail in a different colour. 

Students present this week have been given all of the resources they need for these tasks. Anyone absent can collect a pack from school. A date for this will be given in due course. The test will also be emailed to the students. 

Work added since return from Easter Holiday: 

New tasks 1&2: Woods and sustainability written tasks. Type up answers to questions and email both to Miss Hall 

New task 3: Design activities. Two separate competition that can be entered to demonstrate your creativity. Full details of entry requirements have been emailed to yr 10 DT students. 

New task 4: BBS bitesize. AQA DT. A wide range of tasks to be attempted. All core technical element tasks can be attempted – including test at the end of each unit. Specialist technical material for our school is polymers. This section in bitesize should be used as revision for the elements of this topic covered so far. Some not yet covered can be used as new learning tool. Again, complete tests at the end of the units.  

DT Food Preparation and Nutrition

Task 1: Use the internet to research foods from different cultures and traditions. Complete the social factors affecting food choice task. This can be done as a PowerPoint or Word document. 
Task 2: Complete the Fox and Hound food poisoning mystery activity. Read through all statements to answer the questions and complete the table. 
Task 3: End of unit test on cooking methods to be emailed to the students. 
Work added since return from Easter holiday 
Carbohydrates unit:  
(1) Watch the food science video demonstrations on heat transfer and sauce making. 
(2) Complete the carbohydrates practice questions by using the food science knowledge organiser and slides.  
Raising agents unit: 
(1) Watch video demonstrations on use of raising agents in baking. Answer questions on the function of different raising agents (chemical, mechanical & biological) 
(2) Complete the exam style question on raising agents 
Errors in cake making: 
(1) Watch the recipe demonstrations on cake making errors and complete the questions to explain common faults in cake making. 

Computer Science

Students are developing their Python programming skills and reviewing Component 1 content. Please check Google Classroom for details. 

Drama

Students are working on exam practice and the Live Theatre element of the exam. Students will be emailed weekly with set tasks by Ms Wilson. 

Art

Students have been set work to complete by their class teacher, Ms Duvoisin-Zanchi. This forms part of their 'Objects of Desire' coursework. They will continue to receive work and feedback via school email. 

Music

  1. Essays and analysis work relating to the areas of study will be set. 
  2. Students will also get some wider listening which is important for the course. 
  3. All work will come to you through Google Classroom. 

PE

Year 10s have been given guidance and a sheet instructing them how to access resources and assignments using Microsoft ‘One Drive’.

Business Studies

  1. Complete any outstanding tasks on Google Classroom. Using google classroom, access the powerpoints and links to study the content for the R064 unit (exam content). Tasks to be completed on paper or online. Keep an eye out on new content being uploaded. Links put on Google Classroom to Youtube videos created regarding exam content. 
  2. Question sheets will be produced to coincide with any Business related programme / event to complement your studies.

Where appropriate, students can submit work via email to their class teacher.  In addition, if they have a problem accessing the Online Learning please also contact them directly via email.

Feedback for students

Where possible, the students work will be marked and feedback will be given via the Online Learning platform or through email.
