Key Stage 5

 

6th FormAt Key Stage 5 we offer the WJEC A Level ICT course. All students who undertake the course have three double period lessons per week.

This course is a high quality, industry-relevant qualification geared to the specific requirements of key sectors. This academic-related qualification provides valuable opportunities for individuals to6th Form 2 developskills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support entry into work or progression to further studies through Further Education or Higher Education. The course is an attractive, practically-based qualification intended to stimulate and interest students. This course is centre-assessed through the completion of coursework and externally assessed examinations. Students who follow this course will have to complete two units in year 12 to be awarded an AS qualification and an additional two units in year 13 to be awarded an A Level qualification.

IT1: Information Systems

A written paper of two sections, A and B, presented in a question and answer booklet. There are no optional questions. Quality of Written Communication is assessed in two questions.

 

Students will be required to prepare a spreadsheet on a specific topic, defined by WJEC, in advance of the written paper. Hard copies of the spreadsheet are taken into the examination and used to answer questions in Section B. This spreadsheet is submitted with the completed examination paper.

IT2: Presenting Information

Students undertake desktop publishing (DTP) and multimedia tasks, presenting the outcome for internal assessment and moderation by WJEC.

IT1: Use and Impact of ICT

A written paper of two sections, A and B, presented as a question paper requiring a separate answer booklet. Students answer all questions in Section A and one from two in Section B.

Quality of Written Communication is assessed in two questions.

IT2: Relational Database Project

Students analyse, design, implement, test and evaluate a solution to a problem of their choice requiring the use of a relational database.

 

This is a substantial piece of work, undertaken over an extended period of time. It is internally assessed and moderated by WJEC.
