Year 9 Home Learning
Whilst the school is closed we will continue to set work to enable students to work independently at home.
Please use the table below as a guide to what work Year 9 students should be completing. This page will be updated regularly and more work will follow as we continue to follow the government guidance around the reopening of the school. Further details will also be posted on the website. Under the curriculum section we have listed each subject and within each subject students can find details of the work that has been set for their year group.

Topic is Nigeria: A newly emerging economy Students are provided with powerpoint lessons, as well as accompanying videos, when relevant, which are placed on google classroom. Students should complete assignments outlined in the powerpoint lessons, and submit work requested via google classroom. |
History |
Students to complete the tasks provided by their teachers on Google Classroom. We are currently completing the final lessons on the steps to WWII before moving onto lessons on the Civil Rights movement that relate to the GCSE syllabus. |
Design & Technology |
Work has been explained to students in their lessons this week and they have their student workbooks in which to complete this work. Copies of the instructions and any relevant pages they need (in case they missed the lesson this week and do not have their booklets) will be emailed to the students. Task 1: Written activities on identifying the properties of materials. Task 2: Creating 5 designs for their USB product. Additional: 9 Yellow also have a stretch and challenge task to complete in response to teacher feedback on a class activity. All instructions are on the relevant pages. Practical tasks: A series of YouTube clips demonstrating how to turn recycled materials into a range of different products have been emailed to all year 7 students. Any that they attempt should be photographed and sent to their DT teacher. (one email was sent just after the Easter break and another with more activities sent wed 6th May) NHS banner design competition. To enter, your students simply need to take a photograph of their completed worksheet and email it to hello@fsedesign.co.uk alongside their full name, age and details of their school. For students hoping to do DT next year here are some GCSE resources on BBC Bitesize has some excellent revision materials that will help prepare them for next year. Obviously it will be new learning rather than revision but they are still really useful. There is a test that goes with each section. You can do any or all of the core technical principles. For the specialist technical principles our chosen material is polymers (plastics) so only focus on this one. You are of course free to look at the others as they will support your core knowledge. |
Food Nutrition |
Non cook food booklets will be emailed to the students to complete. Task 1: Complete the case study questions on Maddie’s and Lewis’ diet. Task 2: Complete the food safety case study. Use the Food poisoning sources and signs info sheet to help you complete the questions. Additional: Complete the nutrient pages on fat, and fibre in the food non cook booklet. Update (1) Continue to work through your non cook food booklet (2) Watch the video demonstration on homemade pasta using natural ingredients for colour. Look at processes and equipment involved. (3) Practice cooking skills by getting involved with any cooking at home. Email pictures of your dishes. |
Computer Science |
Develop your Python programming skills through Amazon’s Future Engineer program. They have created a set of tutorials which will take you through the basics before going on to control a virtual drone and smart home. Details can be found on the class Google Classroom. |
Drama |
Students are working on a scheme of work titled 'Devising: Naturalism, Epic Theatre and Physical Theatre using the Stephen Lawrence Story'. They will receive instructions to their school email account about the Drama work they should complete each week. |
Art |
Students are working on a scheme of work titled 'Messages'. They will receive instructions to their school email account about the Art work they should complete each week. |
Music |
Students will receive information by email of some multi-week music projects they can work on. Details of the tasks, including due date and how much time should be spent on it, will be included in the emailed instructions. |
PE |

Where appropriate, students can submit work via email to their class teacher. In addition, if they have a problem accessing the Online Learning please also contact them directly via email.
Feedback for students
Where possible, the students work will be marked and feedback will be given via the Online Learning platform or through email.
