Year 8

Year 8 Home Learning

Whilst the school is closed we will continue to set work to enable students to work independently at home.

Please use the table below as a guide to what work Year 8 students should be completing. This page will be updated regularly and more work will follow as we continue to follow the government guidance around the reopening of the school. Further details will also be posted on the website. Under the curriculum section we have listed each subject and within each subject students can find details of the work that has been set for their year group.

Subject

Home Learning

English

  1. Students need to read William Shakespeare – Macbeth using either the online copy of ‘No Fear Shakespeare’ or a physical copy of the text.
  2. Once the play has been read detailed home-study packs provided weekly by teachers.

Maths

  1. Students complete the home learning booklet.
  2. Maths teachers will also email students regularly sending their class online tasks linked to the objectives that students are working on.

Science

  1. All students should be directed to the online learning package called KERBOODLE.
  2. On this site they will be focusing their learning on the topic of electromagnets from activate book 2 working through pages 34-43 by reading and answering questions.

Religious Studies

  1. Students are currently studying Sikhism and as such are expected to complete the booklet titled, ‘What makes a Gurdwara special?’. This work is to be neatly completed in their exercise books and does not require the use of the Internet.
  2. Once the booklet is completed students can move on to the exciting ‘Inspirational Women’ challenge. This task can benefit from the use of the Internet however it is not necessary. If any issues students can email their Religious Studies Teacher for extra support.

Modern Foreign Languages

French

  1. Linguascope -  (SAVIOURS/ PASSWORD: 20twenty) work on topic in beginner section "Mon environmnent” in French – write down vocabulary in your book
  2. Kerboodle - Y8 students to use ALLEZ BOOK 1 - Chapter 9 - Aux quatre coins du monde - To complete all activities in exercise book. 
  3. Memrise - Work to be set at any time by the teacher – keep checking for updates.
  4. For platforms other than Linguascope, students to email members of the department if login details/passwords are unclear and teachers will help.

Spanish

  1. Linguascope – (SAVIOURS/ PASSWORD: 20twenty) Work on topic in beginner section "Mi Mundo” in Spanish – write down vocabulary in your book

Geography

Topic: Nigeria: A newly emerging economy

  1. Students need to use the workbook (available in hard copy and electronically).
  2. Powerpoint slides and videos emailed out and placed on google classroom.

History

  1. Students taught by Ms Delvaille and Ms Quigley will be given booklets for the English Civil War to work on at home, following instructions which will be emailed by teachers before the lesson would usually take place.
  2. Mr Taggart’s students will need to continue with their projects on pre-Colonial Africa in which they produce a museum display.  They will receive guidance from Mr Taggart via Google classroom.
  3. All teachers will be available to answer student questions at the time when the Year 8 lessons take place. 

Design & Technology

  1. Year 8
    Students were given their booklets on the last week of school. For any student who was absent copies of the relevant pages will be emailed to their school email address.
  2. See curriculum section of the website for tasks for week 1, 2 and 3.

Week 1:  Client questionnaire & research and specification writing. Further details have been emailed to students and instructions can be found on the pages in the student booklets.

Week 2:  Theory tasks on materials and equipment.  Further details have been emailed to students and instructions can be found on the pages in the student booklets.

Week 3: Isometric Drawing HW (pages 14-15). Draw one row each day, copying the example at the top into the box below.

Food Nutrient

Year 8
Students were given their food non cook booklets on the last week of school. For any student absent, a copy will be emailed to their school email address.

Week 1:  Complete the food hygiene, design a poster and safety advice task. Carefully read through the information provided in your student booklet to complete.

Week 2:  Complete the safety advice, washing up and flow chart task.

Week 3: Carefully read through the information on fat and answer questions 1-12.

Extension task:  “ketchup was used in the past as a medicine” Find out whether this statement is true or false!

ICT

Year 8: Develop your Python programming skills at https://codecombat.com/students       Check your school email for the class code.

Drama

Students are working on a scheme of work titled 'Melodrama and Silent Movies'. They will receive instructions to their school email account about the Drama work they should complete each week.

Art

Students are working on a scheme of work titled 'Perspective'. They will receive instructions to their school email account about the Art work they should complete each week.

Music

The Planets Suite and Programme Music – work will emailed weekly.

PE

  1. Students need to complete all sport assessment sheets in their assessment booklets. Including their self-assessment on the front cover for all sports. Electronic copies can be available on request from class teacher.
  2. For practical work students need to use the ‘just dance’ videos via YouTube. Ensure you type ‘just dance’ and scroll through for just dance videos whereby moves and lyrics are appropriate for KS3. See Curriculum section of the website for website links and further details.

Where appropriate, students can submit work via email to their class teacher.  In addition, if they have a problem accessing the Online Learning please also contact them directly via email.

Feedback for students

Where possible, the students work will be marked and feedback will be given via the Online Learning platform or through email.
