Chocolate Bar Development
This project covers a wide range of disciplines and students develop a number of skills. Students are given a design brief asking them to design a chocolate bar and its packaging that could be sold as a souvenir at holiday destinations.
Students manufacture an MDF former and use the vacuum former to create the food grade PVC mould. This project extends students’ knowledge of plastics and starts to look at manufacturing processes used with plastics. By designing the packaging, there is also opportunity to explore graphic design and extend their CAD skills. They manufacture their own packaging, cutting out nets using a die cutter. As well as these skills this project sees an introduction to industrial processes and manufacturing and broadens the students understanding of the design process and its links to actual products.
