Assessment

Monitoring progress

The Science Department use a range of formative and summative assessment methods to monitor progress. Girls can expect to see a summary sheet of their progress on the inside cover of their exercise book and a marking code on the inside of the back cover. Each individual taught unit is formatively assessed to allow teaching staff to offer effective and targeted intervention and ensure every student makes the progress we feel they are capable of. Each year group has 3 summative assessments (4 in year 11) that all students will sit, this allows us to compare the progress of the girls with each other to ensure that every girl is maximising her achievement. Progress is reported through the whole school ROP (Record Of Progress) system, but parents are welcome to contact science teachers directly for a more detailed discussion about progress at any time throughout the academic year.
