Risk Week 2015

Students and Staff embark on a week of risk-taking inside and outside of lessons.

"Our greatest strength lies not in never falling, but in rising each time we fall" (Nelson Mandela)

This week is Risk Week at SSSO. This is a time dedicated to encouraging students and staff to take risks and get out of their comfort zone.  As the quote from Nelson Mandela suggests, it’s important that we learn that failing is often a good thing because we can grow and learn from it. Not taking risks because we are afraid to fail hinders our success in many areas of our lives.

Most of us are not risk takers and Risk Week is about providing opportunities to be brave and, even if we fail, to celebrate trying. This is taking place in the classroom - students are being brave putting their hands up and answering a question, and staff are taking risks by trying out new teaching methods.  Out of the classroom we are all being encouraged to try activities to challenge us, such as food tasting, making something new, performing, animal handling and risky science to name but a few.

So please encourage your daughter to take a risk and get her to tell you what she did and how she felt. Look out for stickers on her blazer and read the card she filled out saying what risk she is taking.

If this has inspired you, we would love you to take a risk and let us know how it went!

Happy Risk Week
